This system spans the entire human body, with cannabinoid receptors present in most cells, including those in the brain and skin.

A brief overview of endocannabinoids

Endocannabinoids are lipid-based neurotransmitters that bind to CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors. Our bodies naturally produce endocannabinoids. Cannabinoids that are not produced by the body are called exocannabinoids. This category includes phytocannabinoids found in the hemp plant, which operate similarly to the endocannabinoids produced by our bodies.
