CBD Oil for Diabetes

CBD Oil - Diabetes

Diabetes is affecting more and more people worldwide, and many are seeking complementary, natural solutions to improve their quality of life. CBD Oil has gained attention in recent years due to its potential anti-inflammatory effects and influence on metabolic processes. But what role could CBD Oil play in diabetes? In our article, we present the current research findings and the most important facts.

Types of Diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes: This form of diabetes is caused by the destruction of insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. It is the result of an autoimmune reaction against these cells. It can develop at any age. The disease can only be treated with insulin replacement therapy.
Type 2 Diabetes: Insulin resistance lies at the core of this form, which is caused by an increase in abdominal fat tissue. Cells respond less to insulin, so they cannot efficiently absorb glucose from the blood. In the early stages, blood sugar levels may not be elevated due to increased insulin production by the pancreas. As the disease progresses, the pancreas cannot compensate for the developing insulin resistance, leading to impaired glucose tolerance and eventually diabetes. In addition to fluctuations in blood sugar, high blood pressure as well as elevated cholesterol and triglyceride levels are typical for this disease. Together, these factors accelerate the development of arteriosclerosis. The primary goal of treatment is to reduce insulin resistance. Lifestyle changes are the most important; medication is only secondary.

Common Complications of Diabetes:

- Retinopathy: Damage to the retina of the eye can lead to gradual vision loss.
- Nephropathy: Damage to small blood vessels in the kidney, leading to proteinuria, high blood pressure, and ultimately kidney failure.
- Neuropathy: Manifesting in sensory loss, pain, and autonomic dysfunctions. Autonomic symptoms can include impotence, diarrhea or constipation, excessive sweating, and rapid heartbeat.
- Macroangiopathies (large vessel diseases): Accelerated arteriosclerosis can develop in any artery. Types include peripheral artery disease causing blockage in limbs, coronary artery disease, and cerebrovascular diseases.

The Effect of CBD Oil on Diabetes

CBD is a natural compound produced by the cannabis plant that interacts with our body’s endocannabinoid system. Researchers at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the ISA Scientific hemp research company have conducted numerous studies on this topic, during which they observed that levels of the endocannabinoids AEA and 2-AG were elevated in patients with type 2 diabetes. Endocannabinoids are cannabinoids naturally produced by our body and are key components of the endocannabinoid system. Experts in the field believe that plant cannabinoids—such as CBD—work similarly to the cannabinoids our body produces, so it is definitely worthwhile to continue research into their effects on diabetes.

Could CBD Oil Be Effective in Treating Diabetes?

In a survey conducted by the online portal Project CBD among CBD users, 169 people reported using CBD oil to manage their diabetes.
Among respondents, 53% were women | 44% men | 3% preferred not to specify their gender.

Most participants using CBD to treat diabetes had type 2 diabetes (72%).

Participants were asked about their blood sugar levels before and after using CBD. Although the average blood sugar level remained high, there was a significant improvement compared to levels before CBD use. On average, respondents’ blood sugar levels decreased by 27%. Participants also reported significant improvements in neuropathic symptoms (such as nerve pain, tingling, or numbness) and some improvement in maintaining a healthy weight.

Which Type of CBD Oil Is Better for Diabetes?

Cannabis, or more specifically CBD oils, are available in two main types: full-spectrum and broad-spectrum. High-quality broad and full-spectrum products contain many other beneficial cannabinoids besides CBD, such as CBDA, CBDV, CBG, and CBN, but what distinguishes them is that broad-spectrum CBD oils and extracts contain no THC. It is generally accepted that full-spectrum cannabis oils—due to the presence of THC—offer a wider therapeutic range, meaning they can provide solutions for a broader variety of conditions.

There is not yet enough research available to confirm that one type of oil is more effective than the other, but it is likely that full-spectrum preparations may be more effective for treating diabetes. Therefore, it’s worth trying a product that contains up to 0.2% THC. This amount is too small to cause intoxicating effects but can significantly increase the therapeutic value.

How Much CBD Oil Do I Need?

The required amount of CBD oil varies from person to person. A widely accepted recommendation is to start with a small amount and gradually increase the daily dose as needed. Our dosage guide, which is accessible on every product page, can help you find the right daily CBD dose. We suggest starting with the standard dosing chart!

How Should I Use CBD Oil for Diabetes?

It’s best to use CBD oil on an empty stomach and hold it under the tongue for at least one minute. Full-spectrum products have a pretty strong, somewhat scratchy taste, so holding it under your tongue can be a real challenge, but if you can’t, you can swallow it immediately.

Final Words and Warnings
According to current legislation, no claims can be made regarding cure or health maintenance in connection with CBD. Based on the available research, it’s likely that in the future, CBD will be recognized as an active ingredient in products developed for diabetes treatment.

It’s important to emphasize that CBD oil is not a miracle cure! The foundations of maintaining good health are regular exercise, a balanced diet, and a stress-free lifestyle. None of these are replaced by CBD! In Hungary and most EU countries, CBD is classified as a "novel food" because its widespread use before 1997 has not been documented, so no promises related to prevention or cure of diseases can be made regarding CBD-containing products. The above information is based on scientific study summaries. Possible drug interactions should be considered before using CBD! Always consult with your healthcare provider before using CBD!
