What You Need to Know About HHC Oil

HHC (hexahydrocannabinol) is a compound that belongs to the cannabinoid family of compounds. Cannabinoids naturally occur in hemp/cannabis plants. So far, more than 100 different cannabinoids have been identified, among which the most well-known are probably CBD and THC.
Hexahydrocannabinol (HHC) is a compound with a structure similar to delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is the most widely known and studied cannabinoid in hemp and is responsible for the plant’s psychoactive effects. HHC is a so-called semi-synthetic cannabinoid produced by hydrogenating THC.
What are the effects of HHC?
Just like THC, HHC is a psychoactive compound, meaning it has mind-altering effects, but these are not as strong as those of THC. At least, this is what the chemical structure suggests. However, 4-5 drops of concentrated HHC oils containing 10-15-20% can be enough for someone to feel “high.” HHC is an under-researched area within the cannabinoid family. Many manufacturers and sellers claim various health benefits, but it’s important to know that there is not yet widespread research available on hexahydrocannabinol (HHC). Due to its structural similarity to THC, it is possible that it has anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects. Research on cannabinoids and cannabis-related compounds is evolving rapidly, and the scientific community is continuously studying the health effects, applications, and potential clinical uses of these compounds. Currently, research mainly focuses on CBD, THC, and CBG.
Is HHC oil legal? Will it show up on a drug test?
According to Hungarian drug laws, HHC is a THC analog, meaning its chemical structure is very similar to THC, so it is a prohibited substance.
So how is it possible that it can be freely purchased in Hungary?
EU member states have differing drug laws, and analog compounds are not always banned everywhere. Therefore, HHC may not be regulated in certain countries. Most HHC-selling webshops are operated by companies registered abroad, from which anyone can order, but that doesn’t make the product “legal.”
Manufacturers and distributors often claim that their HHC products are "THC-free," and that consumption won’t be detectable in drug tests, therefore no consequences should be expected. But this is wrong on both counts. Based on data from the Austrian IFHA cannabis-testing lab, most HHC products tested in the past were found not to be "THC-free," and drug tests unexpectedly returned positive results. To understand this, it’s essential to know that drug testing is conducted in different ways and for different purposes, so the expected detection of cannabinoids depends on the type of drug test used.
Every European country has legally regulated procedures for analyzing and assessing THC and its metabolites' concentrations. For other psychoactive cannabinoids, it is assumed that labs will detect these as "new psychoactive substances" and include them in expert evaluations. Therefore, using HHC oil before or during driving and work is never recommended. The same applies to low-THC, full-spectrum CBD oils; however, these do not cause the strong intoxication seen with HHC products, even in small amounts.
It’s important to mention that CBD Oil is not a miracle cure! The foundation of maintaining our health lies in regular exercise, a balanced diet, and a stress-free lifestyle. None of these can be replaced by CBD! In Hungary and most EU countries, CBD is considered a "novel food," as its widespread use before 1997 was not documented. Therefore, no promises related to disease prevention or treatment can be made concerning products containing CBD.
